The Heilbronner Weg is a highlight among the climbing routes in Oberallgaeu. The first one was already opened in 1899 and is considered to be one of the oldest prepared climbing routes in the Alps. A mountain trail leads from the Rappenseehütte to the Waltenberger Haus through a breathtaking mountain landscape in the highest elevations of the Allgaeu Alps – and with a bit of luck, you can discover ibexes up here.
One of the most popular via ferrata routes of the Oberallgaeu is the “Hindelanger Klettersteig”. Over a long, rugged ridge it leads from the Nebelhorn to the Großer Daumen. Thanks to the Nebelhorn lift, there is no long approach and you can start climbing right away. Nonetheless, the climbing trail in Hindelang is reserved for fit climbers due to its exceptional length.
Athletic and demanding climbing routes
The challenging via ferratas of the Oberallgaeu often require alpine experience and should not be tried by beginners. However, if you are an experienced climber, you can dare the demanding routes of Großer Daumen, Hochgehrenspitze and Nebelhorn. Impressive mountain ridges are reached via the Hindelanger via ferrata, one of the most demanding and difficult climbing trails of the Allgaeu or shorter sport climbing routes such as the multi-national via ferrata Kanzelwand.
