The Lahn-Dill region between Wetzlar and Braunfels was shaped by over 2,500 years of iron ore mining. Here you can experience this on foot. The highlight of the GeoRoute is a tour of the Fortuna mine.

The Lahn-Dill region was characterised by mining for a long time. It was a lucrative ore district. With the closure of the Fortuna mine on 4 March 1983, the more than 2,500-year history of iron ore mining in Hesse also came to an end. Today, you can enjoy walking in the miners' footsteps and study stories about mining and miners along the way. Here is the film!
On the upper pit of the Fortuna mine, directly on the hiking trail, you can watch the winding machine operator at work in the engine house (opening hours here) and a little further up you can look deep into the old opencast mine.
The miners' route can be combined with stage 11 upstream on the Lahnwanderweg for a lovely weekend tour.
