Turn-by-turn directions
Past the Margaretenhöhe pit you walk along the edge of the forest towards the Feldbergblick. There will be several chances to have a wide view on your way and you can look deeply into the mountains of the Taunus whenever the weather is good. A sign at the wayside remembers the pit Amanda which used to be the most productive mine in the area of Wetzlar. On a gravelly passage you will get through the nature and bird sanctuary Weinberg with its rich fauna and flora. If you are lucky you might meet the wandering shepherd. But even so, nature and landscape can be enjoyed here anytime.
Up and down through the forest you will now hike to the castle ruin Kalsmunt on the mountain above Wetzlar at 243 meters above sea level. It was built under Emperor Friedrich Barbarossa. You should make the effort to ascent the tower of the castle ruin because it provides an impressive view of Wetzlar. Afterwards, you will walk down to the cathedral and optics city. Follow the markers across the traffic lights until you will reach the Schillerplatz. From here the path leads past pretty half-timbered houses to the Eisenmarkt. The picturesque and old town of Wetzlar and its numerous restaurants invite visitors to stop for a bite to eat.
