In addition to the classic ski slopes, the Oberallgäu offers numerous freeride runs in open terrain. In hip-high powder snow, you descend the untracked slopes of the Hochgrat, the Nebelhorn or the Schlappoltkopf. In the Allgäu Alps, especially along the slopes of the Nagelfluh chain, ski freeriders get their money's worth.

Optimal free-riding conditions including fantastic views

A real insider tip among free-riders is the 6 km long descent to the 1833 m high Hochgrat in the Nagelfluh chain. The starting point for the subsequent 860 m run can be reached with the Hochgratbahn. Once at the top, there is a fantastic panoramic view over the Allgäu to the Säntis in Switzerland.

One of the most popular freeride routes also lies on the Nebelhorn. It leads from the Edmund-Probst-Haus down the flat eastern slope for about 1,000 m through the valley basin to the Giebelhaus near Hinterstein. If you also want to enjoy a wonderful summit panorama, you should definitely start the short ascent to the Great Thumb.

For border crossers, the descent from Schlappoltkopf to Riezlern is worthwhile, as free-riders have the opportunity to ride in two countries at the same time. Via the Fellhornbahn you reach the mountain on the German side, after a short ridge hike you are already at the start at the Schlappoltkopf. The following descent runs over steep western slopes to Riezlern in the Kleinwalsertal in Austria.
