Der Optikparcours verläuft durch die Stadt und lädt zum Experimentieren und Entdecken ein. An den Stationen kann man beispielsweise ein begehbares Kaleidoskops ausprobieren oder einen großen Brillanten aus optischem Glas, der funkelnd das Licht zurückwirft. – An verschiedenen Standorten in der Stadt wird ein spezieller Aspekt der Optik erfahrbar. Dabei wird ein Spannungsbogen von der objektiven bis hin zur subjektiven Wahrnehmung erreicht. Die Station der „Farbigen Schatten“ vereint schließlich diese beiden Aspekte.
