The Starzlachklamm is a gorge located near the Sonthofen district of Winkel. It was formed over several thousand years by the mountain stream of the same name.
The source of the stream is located nearby - between Grünten and Wertacher Hörnle on 1070 m and makes its way through the picturesque gorge down to the valley. It is accompanied by several smaller streams and waterfalls. The gorge is pleasantly cool during summer, while the water turns into bizarre ice sculptures in winter.

The deep gorge is not only a result of erosions, but also of tectonic movement of the earth's crust. Scientists found calcerous shells in the rock walls of animals that lived in sea mud over 30 million years old – around the time the Alps were shaped. The gorge, which highest waterfall is 9 m high, was once difficult to access. Since 1932 wooden bridges, steps and runnels opened the gorge up to the public. During winter the gorge is accessible at one's own risk and only with appropriate equipment.
