Legendary caves, which already fascinated visitors in Goethe's time
The wildly romantic rocky path high above Bad Ems along the rocks of the Bäderlei with ever new, grandiose views of the river landscape was already part of the standard tourist programme for spa guests in the 19th century. On the way are the fascinating Heinzelmann Caves. These are karstic tubes, a strange freak of nature around which countless legends entwine. They were formed by lime erosion. They fascinated the naturalist Senckenberg and Goethe's friend Lavater as early as the 18th century.
