Do as you please: sailing, fishing, bathing or surfing. As the largest bathing lake in the Oberallgäu, all possibilities are open to you at "Rottachsee" in the community of Sulzberg...

The "Rottachsee" is so harmoniously embedded in the ups and downs of the Allgäu landscape that it gives the impression – like most of its "neighbours" within the Allgäu lake landscape – that it is a product of the melting glaciers from the last ice age. However, it is one of the youngest reservoirs in Bavaria. Only dammed since 1992 on an area of 300 ha, it provides a water balance of Iller and Danube in extreme dry and rainy periods.

In the meantime, the "Rottachsee" has developed into a popular water paradise for swimmers, sailors, surfers, divers and anglers. On both sides of its banks spacious leisure facilities with sanitary facilities, changing rooms, kiosk, beach volleyball court (ball rental at the kiosk), play areas and boat moorings have been set up. The water reaches a pleasant 23°C in summer. The lake shore consists of meadow and gravel and goes flat into the water.

At the same time new habitats for animals and plants have been created in ecologically protected areas. Islands, shallow water zones and deep water areas in close interlocking form a mosaic of different locations and thus a prerequisite for diverse biocoenoses between flora and fauna.

The almost 15 km long hiking and cycling trail invites you to take an extensive walk or a short bicycle tour around the lake.
