Milford Sound

Milford Sound is a fjord on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Fiordland National Park. The mighty glacier movements of the Ice Age created the 15 km long coastal section, creating rock faces up to 1200 m high, which today rise majestically out of the water. The area is one of the rainiest in the world due to its connection to the New Zealand Alps, moderate rainforest grows on the slopes of the mountains and in between numerous waterfalls plunge into the Tasman Sea. Milford Sound is home to seals, penguins and dolphins, while the deeper waters of the fjord are also home to the flora and fauna of the deep sea.
