Travelling by bus and train in the Lahn Valley

The public transport connections in the Lahn valley are excellent. Railway lines accompany the river from Feudingen station, which is closest to the source, to the mouth of the Lahn in Niederlahnstein on the Rhine. A second railway line branches off in Wetzlar, along the Dill towards Siegen. You can comfortably take your bike along on almost all of the railway lines. Here we show you how to get to the source of the Lahn without your own car, even with your bike or dog.

Once the connections you are looking for have been listed, you will find a wealth of further information on the individual journeys in the detailed display. If you want to travel particularly inexpensively, you can use the "Quer-durchs-Land-Ticket", for example. This allows 1 to 5 people to travel for a day on local transport right across Germany. This costs €42 for the 1st person and €7 for each of the 2nd to 5th persons. (Status: 12.12.2021)

Within the Lahn Valley, you can also use the "Schöner Tag Ticket NRW", "Hessenticket" and "Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket", which allow up to 5 people to travel for one day on all local transport in the respective federal state. (Status: 12.12.2021)

A note on the transfer stations for passengers with bicycles:

In Feudingen, the station closest to the source, the platform is directly at the station forecourt.

In Marburg Hbf and also in Gießen Hbf there are lifts at the platforms that are also suitable for bicycles. If you use the subway in Gießen, the lift at platform 11 will take you to the exit without any steps.

In Wetzlar there is a convenient ramp to the subway and lifts to the platforms, which are also suitable for bicycles.

All platforms in Limburg (Lahn) are accessible without steps via a convenient ramp. This starts at the north-east end of the platforms or next to the station building on the station forecourt.

In Balduinstein and Laurenburg (bypassing the steep section) as well as in Niederlahnstein and Koblenz Hbf, step-free access to the platforms is guaranteed.
